Waiting for: September 2017

For whatever reason I was convinced I already read more of this year’s releases… Turns out I was only planning on reading most of them & have yet to accomplish that. The only ones I did read were the Captive Prince short stories, When Rosie Met Jim by Melina Marchetta (I will grow old waiting for the Jimmy book but it will be worth it!!), and of course the most important two that completely stole my heart – The Gentelman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee & The Bedlam Stacks by Natasha Pulley.

If I’m being totally honest it’s those two that made me think so fondly of this year’s books & gave me so much hope for what’s yet to come! :>>>

When I started writing this post it was supposed to be “books of fall ’17” but then I realised just how many I’m waiting for and umm…. It didn’t seem like such a great idea anymore. So I cut it to only September in the end.

Warcross by Marie Lu
Release date: September 12th 2017

I actually still haven’t read anything by Marie Lu although I’ve been meaning to for ages (I mean, The Young Elites looks like so much fun!) but this title caught my eye right away. I love sci-fi books where the future seems very plausible based on how we are now. And come on! The game! The bounty hunters! The intrigue that’s sure to ensue! I can’t wait 😮

The Dollmaker of Krakow by R.M. Romero
Release date: September 12th 2017

Listen, I’m Polish, I went to uni in Kraków. There’s just no way I could miss out on this book!! The cover is absolutely gorgeous with the traditional dress from Kraków & the whole concept of a doll coming to life? Sign me up!!

Speak Easy, Speak Love by McKelle George
Release date: September 19th 2017

Now this truly seems like a dream! It’s a retelling of Much Ado About Nothing which already means it’s gonna be great fun. But on top of that it’s set in 1920s with all its golden shimmery glory of speakeasies & mobs & music. You get the gits, it always looks great on paper or film. And if that’s not enough: it comes recommended by Mackenzi Lee!!

The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo
Release date: September 26th 2017

No surprises here of course. I think we’re all waiting impatiently for anything Bardugo would like to give us. I’ve already read two of her Grisha short stories & in both cases her take on things blew me away. So obviously I’m So! Excited! And god that cover is so gorgeous…

Invictus by Ryan Graudin
Release date: September 26th 2017

Okay so what you guys need to know about me is that I am a sucker for time-travel. It’s such a cool concept??? Who doesn’t dream about being able to travel through time!! And this book is supposed to match that with a group of young black market thiefs! They’re literally gonna make a heist ON THE SINKING TITANIC!! Come on it just doesn’t get better than that!

Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Release date: September 26th 2017

I’m always trying to read more diverse books, both when it comes to their contents & authors. And so Starfish seemed like a logical choice for me. It’s a coming of age story featuring a half-Japanese girl & tbh I love those (as long as they’re written by women…). Based on the description it really looks like the kind of a soft, tender book I would love. The road trip (!!!) is honestly just a cherry on top.

The Black Tides of Heaven by J.Y. Yang
Release date: September 26th 2017

Okay I’ll be honest. With this one it was first just the cover that caught my eye. But… “While Mokoya developed her strange prophetic gift, Akeha was always the one who could see the strings that moved adults to action. While his sister received visions of what would be, Akeha realized what could be” – doesn’t this seem like a start of a fascinating story??

What are the titles you are waiting for? Is there anything else Interesting™ coming out in next month that I’ve missed? Let me know!!
