The title says “of the week”, but I keep making one post like this a month… God, I’m pretty sure all I do on this blog is complaining about how little I read these days… It’s just really tragic, okay? Last week I had to trick myself with some trashy new adult romance books, just so I would finally finish a book. ://
This week was better, though. I actually read some great stuff! And two books that I had on my TBR for basically years. 😮 So that’s gotta count for something, right?
Just please keep your fingers crossed for me that I won’t forget how to read again next week…
Diverse Reads of the Week
💛 Savage Creatures by Natalie Wilkinson // buy it on BookDepo
I wanted to read this book for ages & my main reason was this: I loved everything else from this publisher, the Big Bang Press. Now, granted, they were small, only got three books out before they shut down. But still. Their thing was publishing books by pretty well known fic writers.
Anyway, back to Savage Creatures. It’s an urban fantasy novella & the MC is a dark-skinned sapphic woman who does blood magic. I absolutely adore the worldbuilding, even if it leaves us with a lot of unasnwered questions – I think that’s part of its charm.
💛 Dirty London by Kelley York // buy it on BookDepo
I loved A Light Amongts Shadows by York (you can read my review here), so I was itching to read more by her. This one is an earlier novel & it kind of shows in the writing but! It’s still really good and so very, very gay, my guys! And because York isn’t straight herself, the rep is really great & feels real at every turn! Honestly, it’s just such a soft, sapphic book!
You may ask, but Anna, didn’t you put Crush on your last Diversity Sunday post? And you would be correct. But see… the thing is… I decided 2019 is the year I’m gonna read Crush once every month… Because I still haven’t read it enough times, I guess. So this was read number 13…
💛 Beginning With O by Olga Broumas // buy it on BookDepo
This is another poetry collection, this time by a lesbian poet. And yes, that’s my main selling point here. It’s not really a heartbreaking one, like most of my faves tend to be; rather mellow and not overly focused on a gay perspective.
💛 Captain Marvel, vol. 1: Higher, Further, Faster, More by Kelly Sue DeConnick (writer) & David Lopez (artist) // buy the collection on BookDepo
I just saw the movie yesterday, am deeply in love with everything about it, so of course I had to finally try the comics! And before you get your hopes up, no, Carol isn’t a canon lesbian here, like she should be. But there is a side sapphic character! So!
💛 You Asked for Perfect by Laura Silverman // buy it on BookDepo
I’ve been excited about this book for months (it’s right there in my March releases post) and it did not disappoint! I’m very much on a contemporary novels kick again, so this was a great choice for me. Just a fair warning though: this book will stress you out. I mean, my actual high school experience didn’t give me as much anxiety as this book did. I just wanted to take a nap after I finished (and make sure Ariel took one, as well).
Diverse To Be Reads of the Week
Which of Us Two?: The Story of a Love Affair by Colin Spencer

Death by Silver by Melissa Scott & Amy Griswold

I’m really happy that I had something to put in this post finally! I’ve struggling to read for what feels like forever now! Honestly, I can’t even call this a reading slump anymore. I just…. Don’t read a lot? Maybe I should actually make peace with that…
But anyway! Hopefully my reading choices from this week will inspire some of you!
