Starting the week with poetry: Black lesbian poets

I feel like this title is pretty self-explanatory, don’t you? I was just going to do a post about lesbian poets, period. But then I realised it’s still Black History Month. AND it’s Audre Lorde’s birthday today. The universe wants me to talk about poetry collection specifically by Black lesbians. And who am I to refuse…

Also, let’s be honest here, I will probably make another post about lesbian poets some day. There are just too many great voices that need recognition or that people need to be reminded of. So no promises that it will happen soon, but I’m gonna be back with more!

Waiting for: February 2019

I’m in Paris (!!!) but that’s no reason for me not to talk about all the amazing books coming out next month! I mean, you can pre-order them no matter where I am…

Some of those titles I already mentioned in my post about January-June 2019 diverse releases, but there is going to be so many more here!! This time I don’t have to choose just two books, to make a list at least a little bit managable…

And keep in mind, not everything I’m excited about is going to be featured on this list – some of those books I talk about over at Reads Rainbow! So check out my February releases list there as well for more LGBT content!!

And now, February books that I’m most excited about! 🍑🍑🍑

Diverse Reads & To Be Reads of the Week #19

Okay, yes, I haven’t written one of those posts in a while because I actually haven’t read much this year yet. The first week was great – actually, maybe even less than a week… And then I kind of went into another reading slump. New year, new me? Not in this house apparently.

So yeah, I’m gonna list all the gay shit I’ve read this year so far, not just this past week. There is not going to be a lot going on in this list, guys… But! On the plus side! (Well, a plus side for me personally, at least.) There are going to be two (2) Polish books!

I should mention, I suppose, that I’ve been digging into polish history and trying to find gay authors from my own country. It’s a slow process but I did find some good stuff already and even managed to buy a few for myself! It’s especially cool to me because those are all books and authors from the last century!

Anyway, I will one day make a post about this, either here or on Reads Rainbow, but for now, let’s focus on what I read recently.

So you’re in the mood for books set in Europe

Listen, I know, I realise: we strive for diversity in this establishment. So what am I doing recommending books set in Europe of all places? Like there aren’t countless titles like that! What’s the deal, Anna, you may ask.

Well, first of all, I’m from Europe and sometimes you actually do wanna see yourself in the books you read. I mean, I won’t really see myself because none of those books are set in Poland…. I clearly didn’t think this through… In my defense, none of the books set here that I would like to recommend, are even translated into English. So there’s that. But still, it’s Europe, it’s close enough.

And this IS reading peaches which means the books I’m gonna talk about have POC characters or LGBT characters, or a really cool set-up, or are written by women… Actually, they are all but one written by women and the one that isn’t – it’s Les Misérables. I just wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t rec my fav book of all time when talking about books set in Europe!!

Also, fun fact: I’m going to Paris next week!!! I’m so excited, guys! I’ve never been there before and I’m going with my best friend. We’re gonna hit up all the places connected to Les Mis and all the cool museums, and it’s going to be fabulous.

Okay, okay, so let’s proceed with the list! And today it’s seven books because, hey, it’s my blog, I can bend the rules if I feel like it.

Reading list: 12 books I NEED to read in 2019

I already talked about this on twitter, so you might have some idea of what books you’re about to see, if you follow me there. But yeah, basically I was inspired by Melanie and her list of 12 books she wanted to & did manage to finally read in 2018. I’m definitely not as good with reading lists as she is, but she encouraged me, so here we are!

I’m pretty sure all of those books were sitting on my TBR since 2017 or even earlier, with maybe one or two exceptions. I’m really hoping that by sharing this list with you guys, I will be better motivated to read them! Please keep your fingers crossed for me, though! I’m definitely gonna need some encouraging.
